ABOUT COACHING
-
Coaching is a structured, forward-focused relationship built around education, skill-building, and helping you move toward where you want to be. It’s not therapy - it doesn’t involve diagnosis, treatment, or extensively revisiting the past. Instead coaching focuses on understanding what’s happening now and building practical tools to get unstuck and move forward toward the life you want, guided by your own values.
At Insight Works, coaching means working with a doctoral-level psychologist who uses real science to help you understand what’s going on in your brain and body - and what to do about it. We offer one-on-one coaching sessions as well as group classes and educational programs, all skills-based and designed to give you clarity, tools, and a real plan for moving forward.
-
Coaching is a broad field with a wide range of training, backgrounds, and approaches. What sets Insight Works apart is the depth of science and professional experience behind everything we do.
Both of our coaches, Dr. Meghan Rooney and Dr. Carolyn Davidson, hold doctoral degrees in psychology and bring decades of experience - including co-developing and leading a national program at the Department of Veterans Affairs helping veterans with stress, anxiety, pain, and sleep problems move forward toward the life they want. Now they’re bringing that same work directly to you.
When we explain what’s happening in your brain and body, we’re drawing on real research, not intuition or generic frameworks. When we help you build tools, they’re grounded in approaches that have been tested and refined with real people facing real challenges.
We also bring something harder to quantify - genuine warmth, natural humor, deep respect for each person’s natural abilities, and a strong investment in the people we work with.
We’re not here to lecture you or hand you a one-size-fits-all program. We’re here to collaborate and help you understand what’s actually going on so you can move forward in a way that works for your life. -
No. Insight Works provides coaching and education - not psychotherapy, psychological assessment or treatment, or clinical mental health services. That distinction matters and it’s important and intentional.
Our work is educational, skills-based, and forward-focused. We don’t diagnose or establish a psychologist-client or healthcare provider-patient relationship. What we do establish is something equally important - a real, collaborative working relationship focused entirely on you and where you want to go. And you don’t have to “have it all together” to show up for it.
In fact, many people come to us with anxiety, persistent pain, sleep problems, or other challenges and find coaching to be exactly what they need. For some it might be all they need. For others coaching is a valuable starting point or a complement to ongoing clinical care elsewhere.
Because our work is educational rather than clinical, we’re able to work with people across the United States - no referrals, no waitlists, and no hassles with insurance carriers.
If we think psychotherapy or another type of clinical support would be helpful - whether alongside coaching, or as a first step before coaching - we’ll be honest with you about that and help point you toward the right resources.
-
Absolutely - and many people do. Coaching and therapy serve different purposes and can work really well together.
Therapy often focuses on deeper personal exploration, processing past experiences, and clinical treatment of mental health conditions. Coaching at Insight Works focuses on understanding the science behind what’s going on in your brain and body and building practical, forward-focused tools to change it.
The two complement each other rather than compete. If you’re already working with a therapist, coaching can add a layer of practical skill-building and education that supports and enhances that work.
If you’d like, you’re welcome to let us know you’re in therapy when you reach out - we’re happy to think with you about how coaching might fit alongside what you’re already doing.
GETTING STARTED
-
Honestly, if you’re asking this question, you’re probably closer to ready than you might think.
Coaching tends to be a good fit if you’re motivated to understand what's going on and willing to try things - even if you’re not sure exactly where to start or what’s been holding you back. You don’t need a specific diagnosis, a clear goal, or a perfectly articulated problem. You just need some curiosity and a sense that something could be different.
If you’re still not sure, the easiest way to find out is a free 15-minute consultation call. No commitment, no pressure - just a real conversation to help you figure out if this is the right next step for you.
-
It's a free 15-minute phone call with either Meghan or Carolyn - informal, no agenda, no pressure. Think of it as a chance to have a real conversation about where you are and what you might be looking for, and for us to share a little about how we work and what we offer.
There’s no wrong thing to say and nothing you need to prepare. You don’t even need to know exactly what you want - that’s often what the call helps figure out.
At the end you’ll have a clearer sense of whether coaching, a class, or something else entirely feels like the right next step. And if it turns out Insight Works isn’t the right fit, we’ll be honest about that too.
-
Both are grounded in the same science and focused on the same goals - helping you understand what’s going on and build real tools to move forward. The difference is format, pace, and how personal it gets.
1-to-1 coaching is a natural starting point for most people. You work directly with Meghan or Carolyn on your specific situation and goals - talking through what’s actually going on for you, at your own pace, with the full range of tools and strategies available to you. It’s personal, flexible, and built around you.
A Reset class is purely educational and fast-paced. It’s a lot of science and a focused set of initial tools delivered efficiently in a single 90-minute small group session. You won’t be discussing your personal situation, and you’ll leave with the core science and a few practical tools to get started. Some people love the intensity and efficiency of that format. Others find they prefer starting with 1-to-1.
We’re also building longer-term group programs for people who want more time, more depth, and a group to work through it with - coming soon.
Also, 1-to-1 coaching and classes are not mutually exclusive. Many people do both, in whatever order makes sense for them.
Not sure? That’s exactly what the free consultation call is for. We’ll help you figure out which path makes the most sense for where you are right now.
1-TO-1 SESSIONS
-
You can book a session directly through our website. When you book you’ll receive a confirmation with your Zoom link - just make sure you’ve got Zoom downloaded and click the link at your scheduled time and you’re ready to roll.
1-to-1 sessions balance focus and flexibility - they are purposeful and directed, while also staying responsive to where you actually are in that moment. Depending on where you are in the process a session might involve exploring what’s going on, learning a new concept or framework, working through a specific challenge, or checking in on tools you’ve been practicing.
One thing that sets our approach apart is a focus on noticing wins - small and large - along the way. Change is rarely dramatic and sudden. Recognizing what’s already shifting is an important part of moving forward. (Yes, there’s science behind this, too!)
Between sessions, some people appreciate structured worksheets and practice tasks to work with. Others prefer a more open approach. We follow your lead on that.
But you don’t need to prepare anything in advance. Showing up is enough.
-
We offer three session lengths for 1-to-1 coaching:
25 minutes | $100 A focused, efficient session for check-ins, working through a specific question, or keeping momentum while practicing between longer sessions.
45 minutes | $150 Dedicated time to work through what’s on your mind, build on previous sessions, and make real progress.
60 minutes | $200 The most time to go deeper, tackle more complex challenges, and build a clear path forward.
All sessions are virtual via Zoom. You can book directly through our website.
